Plawres Sanshiro is a nostalgic title that brings a lot of us back to our childhood, with warm memories or watching or reading this brilliant title about fighting robots.

Plawres Sanshiro was the first of it’s kind, a mecha show with small robots that battle in the arena. Fighters of a new age called PlaWrestlers. This has inspired so many other stories that you might know, the concept might be something you know from other more recent films and series, it all started here.

We worked with the Little Things Shop to bring to life their vision of Juohmaru, the protagonists trusted PlaWrestler. They had watched this series in their childhood and had always wanted some amazing collectibles, but they didn’t exist. So they decided to make one!

Which means we had high pressure to create something amazing for this underserved community.

The market for collectibles for Plawres Sanshiro was heavily underserved, with it being a historic licence the collectibles world wasn’t at the same peak as it is now. This results in two main challenges:

  1. High expectations from devoted fans

  2. Blue ocean of ideas to explore, because nothing else was on the market

With having little representation for this licence, we needed to walk the line to create a piece that would impress the fans and ensure a highly successful launch for the Little Things Shop, whilst not being prohibitively expensive to purchase, or manufacture.

These key challenges resulted in an amazing 2:1 bust, something rarely seen in the collectibles world at all, that captures the true feeling of the licence.

Masterpieces aren’t created in a day.

The timeline from concept to shipping for this piece was 1 year. Each of these steps is an important step to creating a figure that that collectors, licensors and clients will all love. At each stage of the process we run it through our own internal feedback loop as well as incorporating feedback from clients and licensors to stay aligned.

Each stage is important, especiall the first stage, the initial consultation. We started to understand the licence, market and what needed to be achieved from this product. This will be the guide for every decision going forward.

Concept Art

In this stage, we translate the initial ideas into visual form by developing multiple 2D design options through a combination of compositing and illustration. Each option explores different approaches to the figure’s pose, proportions, colour palette, and overall character, giving us a clear picture of how the final piece could look.

3D Design

Once the 2D concept art is finalized, we develop the initial 3D model to get a sense of the chosen design and we can make tweaks and changes to perfect it. Going from 2D to 3D isn’t always straightforward, and so is an important step in quality assurance. clients to ensure it matches our expectations. Once we’ve perfected the grey model, we colour it and add material texture. This will give us a great sense of how the final manufactured piece is going to look.

Once the 3D model is complete, we produce a coloured prototype to test how the design works in the real world. At this stage, our team focuses on engineering and fine-tuning details such as structure, stability, paint application, and assembly, so that every piece delivers the best possible experience for customers. The prototype is reviewed and adjusted until it meets our standards, and once it is approved, the piece moves into full mass production at the factory. Each unit then goes through a strict quality control process, where we check for consistency in finish, colour accuracy, and overall build quality. Only after passing these checks is the piece carefully packed and shipped to customers.

The timeline from concept to shipping for this piece was 1 year.

This bust may not be the biggest piece we’ve created, but it doesn’t mean it lacks the detail. We put the same level of detail into every project no matter how large or small. This piece had its own unique intricacies like multiple LED lights and swappables that have had to be taken into account.
